Breeding Kinks Explained: Fantasy, Fetish, and Staying Safe
written by Micah Brown
Wanna Go Halvsies on a Baby?
All kidding aside, breeding kinks are actually growing in popularity and more people are curious about what they actually are. What is it about the fantasy (most times) of the possibility of getting pregnant that has been driving more people to identify with having a breeding kink?
What Is a Breeding Kink?
Simply put, a breeding kink is where the perceived risk of pregnancy is added into a scene for the primary purpose of increased arousal. This does not (always) mean that there is a truly a risk of pregnancy in the scene, only that it has been placed into the scene as a way to increase arousal. For those who have a breeding kink, the “risk” of pregnancy adds to the scene and can help them find a deeper connection to their partner at the same time.
In some cases, partners may actually have sex that could risk pregnancy for the sake of the thrill. While this can be okay for a couple who has discussed the actual risks of pregnancy and their plans in the event that they do end up pregnant, it can be an issue if a pregnancy occurs and there is no real plan in place. Generally speaking, this sort of risk is lower in those who take part in breeding kinks as opposed to those who may have a breeding fetish (more on that below).
Who Can Have a Breeding Kink? (Spoiler: Anyone)
Absolutely anybody can have a breeding kink. It doesn’t matter if you’re Cis, Trans, Gay or Lesbian, Straight, or somewhere in the middle of all of those, that fantasy can have a powerful hold. Imagine, two gay men having a scene where either through magic or technology one of them is able to get pregnant and they have their desire for a breeding kink met. The same can go for two women or even just two people of any gender who happen to have the same genitals.
Being a cis, straight male doesn’t diminish the fun of a good breeding scene. While it’s not something that I particularly crave in my kink, it has been something previous partners have been very deeply into and I have garnered enjoyment out of thse scenes because of how much enjoyment they got from it.
Now, I’ve had a vasectomy, so the likelihood of getting anybody pregnant borders on the highly unlikely (but never a 0 chance), but that didn’t stop one partner and I from having deeply erotic breeding fantasies and roleplay in the least.
How Breeding Kinks Combine With Other Kinks
There’s a pervasive belief that being kinky must mean that you are into ropes and whips and chains and spanking and all those other stereotypical types of activities, but that’s not the case at all. If we look at the common definition of what a kink is, it is generally defined as sexual activity that falls outside of the norm (this is a very basic definition). For those with a breeding kink, despite the fact that fucking is literally how we continue the species, the scenes in which these scenarios take place don’t always fall into what one might consider possible scenarios.
If your breeding kink is simply that you end up pregnant and you role-play attempting to conceive when you have sex, that’s still a breeding kink. The same goes for if you’ve been captured by a half-vampire who is keeping you as breeding stock and the scene incorporates CNC as well as breeding into the roleply. Breeding kinks can easily slot into all kinds of other kinks as well, and that’s important because even if one partner isn’t excited by a breeding kink, but is excited by monster fucking, you can roll them together to create a scene that everybody will enjoy.
A more grounded breeding kink scene that a previous partner and I did was a college student and professor, and if she became pregnant and birthed a child for the professor, he would give her an A in the class. This tied into multiple kinks, including age play (we were both in our 40s at the time of the scene), consensual non-consent (blackmail type), and the breeding kink itself. We also came up with more fantastical scenes, such as the vampire scenario I mentioned above.
I have a good friend on the west coast who enjoys a breeding kink with his boyfriend that involves alien technology that allows a bioligically male individual to get pregnant with an alien baby. It goes into quite a bit of detail and there’s even some backstory to the whole thing that I won’t go into in this space, but I wanted to use this as an example of how various kinks are able to merge and flex around the idea of a breeding kink.
Breeding Kink vs. Breeding Fetish: Understanding the Difference
There is a misconception that a kink and a fetish equate to the same thing. Very briefly put, a kink is an activity that falls outside the “normal” scope of sexual activity, but is not a requirement for arousal or climax whereas a fetish is an object, act, or non-sexual body part that is required for an individual to reach full arousal and climax. A person who cannot get fully aroused unless feet are involved would have a foot fetish.
While a breeding kink can be fun for those who enjoy that type of play, a breeding fetish is going to mean that the individual must have some kind of breeding roleplay occuring if they are to achieve completed sexual satisfaction. Kinks can be fun whereas fetishes can sometimes cause issues for an individual who may want to be able to experience sexual satisfaction without their fetish involved, whether for themselves or for the sake of their partner.
While not common, a breeding fetish can cause issues with those who are able to become pregnant. First, if the individual who has the breeding fetish is able to get pregnant, this can cause them seek out risky situations that expose them not only to the risk of pregnancy but the risk of STIs. Additionally, they can sabotage birth control methods in order to become pregnant.
The same risks and behaviors can exist for those people who can get another person pregnant.
How to Explore a Breeding Kink Safely
Saftey in breeding kinks pretty much boils down to sexual safety in general. Make informed choices that fit within your risk profile. Be up front and honest with your partner. Don’t be dishonest or try to pressure somebody into something they don’t wish to participate in. My current partner wants absolutely nothing to do with breeding kinks at all. It is not something that she is into and so it’s not something has entered into our various types of play.
Wrapping it Up
(Get it?)
As with any kink, you want to maintain communication with your partners and let them know your feelings on how things are progressing. Be clear about your desires in a scene that involves a breeding kink and make sure to plan out the various aspects of the roleplay before you begin. If you are new breeding kinks, it is especially important to discuss scenarios before you engage them and plan for your method of birth control and, as always, discuss the steps you plan to take in the event somebody does end up pregnant.
